01 · The Business
The business behind the numbers.
Keresley News is a local newsagent in Coventry selling newspapers, magazines, confectionery, tobacco and the everyday convenience items its neighbourhood relies on. It serves a loyal base of local residents, many of them regulars who call in daily. Newsagents work on famously thin margins across a lot of small-value transactions, so the cost of accepting cards has an outsized impact on profitability.
Convenience retail runs on a high number of small transactions, so the cost of each one and a till that stays reliable all day add up quickly.
02 · The Challenge
The costs that never got reviewed.
On Dojo, the cost of taking card payments was steadily eating into those already tight retail margins. When a large share of sales are low-value items like a paper or a chocolate bar, processing fees can quickly erode what little profit each sale carries. The shop simply wanted to keep more of every transaction without changing how it trades.
What mattered most. Lower costs, backed by local support that is easy to reach around the clock.
03 · The Switch
Teya, chosen on fit.
NEOM moved them to Teya for lower-cost, reliable card payments better suited to a high-frequency, low-value retail model. With local 24/7 support, the owner isn’t left stuck if anything goes wrong at the counter. The switch reduced their processing costs by around 30%, money that goes straight back into a business where every penny of margin counts.
